Understand the opportunity.
Does Google really give away $10,000 in free advertising?
Eligible nonprofits can access up to $10,000 per month in Google Search advertising. It is not a cash payment, and approval does not guarantee full budget use or fundraising results. See how grant setup and management work.
Who Qualifies?
Find out where your organization fits.
Does our nonprofit qualify?
U.S. applicants need IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) status or a qualifying group exemption, Google for Nonprofits approval, and an eligible website. Google makes the final decision.
Which organizations are excluded?
Government entities, healthcare organizations, and academic institutions are excluded. Eligible healthcare charitable foundations and educational philanthropic arms can qualify. Independent education or health charities need an individual review.
Can churches and other faith-based organizations apply?
Yes, if they meet Google’s requirements. U.S. churches need IRS recognition or eligible group exemption documentation; automatic tax exemption alone is insufficient for Google’s verification. Ads must fit the mission and applicable policies.
Are ads for worship or membership automatically prohibited?
No blanket prohibition is stated in the Google policies reviewed. Review the specific ad, destination, and targeting against current mission and advertising policies before launch.
Can a fiscally sponsored project receive its own grant?
Not solely through sponsorship. A U.S. project without its own 501(c)(3) status or qualifying group exemption is not independently eligible. Sponsor approval does not automatically extend to separate projects.
Can a 501(c)(4) organization apply?
A 501(c)(4) designation alone does not meet the U.S. eligibility requirement. A separately eligible charitable organization must be evaluated on its own.
Can organizations outside the United States qualify?
Yes, where the program is available and the organization meets its country’s requirements. Product availability and verification rules vary.
Applying & Approval
Prepare your documents and website.
Do we apply for Google for Nonprofits first?
Yes. Complete nonprofit verification through Goodstack and receive Google for Nonprofits approval before requesting Ad Grants activation.
What should we have ready?
Prepare your registered name, EIN or charity number, website, affiliation information, and recognition or group exemption records. Submit additional documents if requested; not every applicant must submit a Form 990 or bylaws.
What website improvements may be needed?
Use HTTPS, original program information, clear navigation, working links, and a good mobile experience. Explain how limited sales support the mission and avoid AdSense. MSM recommends clear contact details and an appropriate privacy policy. For help improving the pages your ads send visitors to, explore our landing page and conversion optimization services.
What if Google declines our application?
Read the decision, correct the identified issue, and follow the relevant resubmission or support instructions. There is no guaranteed approval or fixed review timeline.
Using Your Grant
Set realistic goals for your advertising.
What results can we expect from Google Ad Grants?
Search ads can help people discover your organization, explore your services, volunteer, or donate. The grant does not guarantee donations, a specific number of leads, or full use of the monthly budget. Choose meaningful goals and measure what visitors do after clicking.
Keeping Your Grant
Stay eligible after approval.
What keeps an approved account eligible?
Maintain nonprofit status, website quality, compliant campaign settings and conversion tracking, and respond to required program surveys. Violations can lead to suspension.
